{Back to School Capsule Tour}
Ok, so if you have been following my blog for a bit you know about this capsule! I have so many emotions running through me right now. Exhaustion, relief, accomplishment...exhaustion....seriously though, I could probably sleep for a few days. This has been in the works for months, but for one reason or another, I was unable to really get a good grip on the sewing aspect of it until the last two weeks, of which I have been a sewing fool. With all of that being said, I really has a blast with this capsule. I pushed my creativity and skills to the max and have learned SO much that I feel the next one will be so much easier....and yes, there WILL be another.
In total, I made 10 pieces. I had a handful more that I planned to do, but ran out of time and resources. By the time the weather starts cooling off here in Texas however (hopefully just another month or so), I plan to get those finished up.
Let's talk about resources for a minute here. Part of my stress with this project was that the budget just didn't allow for much wiggle room to purchase a lot of fabric, so I felt like I was a bit limited to what I COULD do. Here is where I pushed the creativity....I ended up upcycling a few pieces. Yes, I went shopping in my closet and found a few pieces that no longer fit, were out of style and knew I would never wear again, or were torn/damaged. Check out this upcycle!!!
I also upcycled the Kudzu Cargo's from a pair of my old pants, but I forgot to get a pic of those in progress. As for the rest of the capsule, so much of it I was able to pull from my stash and still coordinate with the colors that I chose. In total I probably only spent about $50 in new fabric on this project....that is a win for me. Not only saving money, but actually USING what I own. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to shop, but sometimes that is just not possible.
Alright, let's get down to the nitty gritty. I will lay out for you each piece that his capsule wardrobe consists of.
For the tops I made:

Because we homeschool, I was not too worried about shoes at this point, but these are some that I have been eyeing and go really well with his capsule! I normally get my shoes from Zappos because the returns are easy, free and the selection is amazing.
Converse :: Chuck Taylor All Stars in Navy
See Kai Run :: Jesse in Grey
Even though I don't have a ton of pieces for his capsule, there are SO
many outfit combos that can be made from these few items. I let him pick
out a few outfits, and this is what he came up with! I love every single one, but if I had to pick, I would say it would be the orange Metropolitan Pants and the Lumberjack shirt together....they look so sharp!!!
Thank you so much for stopping by, and make sure to visit everyone else that has posted along on the tour. I am sad to see this end, but I know that there will be SO may more adventures in sewing ahead for us all!

ReplyDeleteGreat planning! I love how you used prints sparingly and focused on solids. It's always tempting to pick the cool fabrics, but the basics are what gets worn.
