{Date Night Out} Wear to Where?
When Katy, from Wild and Wanderful, presented the idea of "Wear to Where?" I just couldn't help myself...which is typical for blog tours. #sewalltheblogtours
Being a stay at home mom and homeschooling mom, I don't really venture out to too many places other than the grocery store, Joann's and the occasional field trip. I know, LAME! It's what I do though, and I would change that for the world. As I was trying to decide which "place" I wanted to sew for, I really wanted to step out of my comfort zone...I have been doing that a LOT lately and it is so much fun learning new things.
So, the reason that I chose Date Night Out is because hubby and I have not been out on a date for over 3 years. We strive for a date night in once a week, but very rarely to we go out.
I really enjoyed sewing for this, and as I was sewing, I imagined all the places that I could go on a Date Night Out wearing this very outfit.
First piece I made were the pants. These are the SOS Knit Pants by Patterns for Pirates. I made the wide leg version, in a black ponte, from Joann's for a classy look that will go with just about anything. I go ahead and sew a longer inseam that I needed so that I could wear heels with them. Do you see those RED heels? I wish that I had gotten a better picture of them..they ROCK!!!!
Next I sewed the Lane Top from Shwin Designs. The fabric is a crepe (I think) from Joann's that has just the slightest bit of stretch in it which is perfect and so comfortable. I find it harder to find blouse patterns that are not knit, but this one really fit the bill. I love the subtle details in this shirt. Pleat in the back, button tab sleeves and curved hem!!!!! I will say that I need a bit more practice with curved hems...they are so tricky. If you have a good trick to sewing them, please leave it in the comments below.
Lastly, I made the Evelyn purse from KZJO Studio. OMG, this purse is ADORABLE! I love the patchwork detailing on it. I used a metal zipper to add a bit more class. All of the fabrics are from Joann's as well. The bottom half are both upholstery vinyl, and the floral is a quilting cotton that coordinated perfectly with the navy from my shirt! It was also a super quick sew, and her tips make sewing with a zipper very easy.
I just love every single piece that I made for my Date Night Out look, and I can't wait to mix and match them with my Capsule Wardrobe this winter. Thank you so much for stopping by!

I thought I recognized that clutch! I am IN LOVE with the one I made too. It's not often that I get to carry a smaller purse along with me, but date nights or kid free events are perfect for this.
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOVE your entire outfit. And now I'm going to have to look into that top because I think I need to add some woven patterns into my arsenal. You look hot, momma!
Thank you! I was wavering back and forth about the top, but I am glad that I chose it.....I am really in love with it!
DeleteClassy as always!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that top! And those pants, they are on my list to make, I just bought the pattern yesterday.

ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the holiday look the most I think.
I have been SO impressed with the quality of the sewing on this tour so far and this is no exception. I can't believe you made everything! The bag is gorgeous and I love how yo've mixed the floral print with the spots - perfect :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :) I fell in love with that floral!
DeleteOh Courtney! You look lovely as always! You picked a great set of patterns for your outfit.
ReplyDeleteGreat work, as usual. You look happy and confident in your date night outfit. Dinner and a movie for you!
ReplyDeleteYour outfit looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit, it looks great:) I think I'm looking forward to Holiday most - just so I can imagine a holiday away somewhere!!!
ReplyDeleteThese classic colors and prints look gorgeous on you, and I especially love that clutch!
ReplyDeleteThe pleat on the back of the top is such nice touch! My "secret" for hemming the curves? Serge around the hemline, then turn the serged line up once. The narrow hem will fold up nicely over the serged stitch- even around a curved hem. Hope that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteThat absolutely makes sense. I was totally going to do that, but for some reason I didn't...I don't remember why. I will definitely try it on the next one.
