{Make Laundry, Don't Do Laundry} Tour

I have the hardest time getting laundry done...it is the bane of my existence. I can get it washed no problem, but it is getting it moved over to the dryer, dried, folded and then put away in the proper place that I struggle with. Why is it so hard to do? I ask myself that question constantly, and I have come to the conclusion that if I had a counter in the laundry room, I could immediately pull them out of the dryer and put them away. It sounds like a great idea in my head, but ultimately I am sure that would just result in having a pile of clothes on the counter rather than on the floor of the living room. Who is with me here?

Karly, Jeanine and Cassandra came together to brainstorm the idea for sharing our "laundry day picks" that are quicker to just SEW than it is to do a load of laundry. I would be lying if I said that I have never whipped up a top to wear because I didn't have anything clean.....so this is right up my alley. Follow along all this week for some great inspiration for sewing MORE and doing LESS laundry ;) Who could ask for more?!?

I have a continuously growing wardrobe due to all the pattern testing that I have done over the years, but it has really been a blessing in disguise for me. I now have a LARGE library of patterns to choose from, varying in experience level/construction time, that I can make more laundry with.

While preparing, I took a good look at the patterns that I have as well as what I owned in my closet already. I was able to narrow it down two patterns that are my all-time favorite quick sews...and since it's pretty much already summer here in Texas, I chose my favorite two tanks. The Free Spirit Tank from Patterns for Pirates and the newly released Tidal Tank from Love Notions.

The The Free Spirit Tank came out last summer and I quickly made many of them to add to my wardrobe. I my favorite part is the flared silhouette. I feel that it is flattering to those that have a little extra in the hip area because the fabric just flows right over them without creating too much bulk, but also hiding the mum tum. It comes in four lengths [cropped, shirt, tunic, dress] two backs [full, razorback] and FIVE hemming options [straight, side dipped, high low, hankerchief, curved]. I am tall, so I my favorite option is the full back tunic length...and I have been boring and only done the straight hem so far. Perhaps this summer I will add a few more to my wardrobe!!!

The Tidal Tank was just released last week, but I had the opportunity to help in the testing process. I made a few different versions in testing, but the silhouette stayed the same. I used a cotton lycra for my color-blocked versions and I find them to have more of a fun "sporty" look, however my floral version is a rayon spandex and it is more fluid and drapes better over the body. It comes in three different lengths [shirt, knee length dress, maxi] and princess seams, creating a nice shape. If you choose to do so, the Tidal Tank has a front panel that is great for color-blocking or leave it solid for a totally different look.

I LOVE the options that you are given for both of these patterns. You can create a nice range of looks with either of them, so even if you are like me and make a handful of the same pattern, it will not look like you are wearing the same thing every day.

  6. 45 minutes! That's awesome! I'd definitely make more of those then do laundry! As it is, I have two full baskets of clean washing to put away, a bag of dirties to do, and a half a dozen shirts and a full basket of ironing. I'd much rather sew :)
